A.J. Burnett will start throw off a mound on Monday the first time since re-injuring his elbow in a start against the Red Sox on April 21. Burnett has been participating in some long-toss for the last couple weeks has been throwing from 120 feet. Although no timetable has been mentioned for his return, this news will come as a relief to Jays fans as Toronto’s pitching staff has been struggling lately.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced last night that they have decided to put Gustavo Chacin(5-1, 5.31) on the 15-day DL retroactive to May 11th. The Blue Jays tried to avoid putting him on the DL, but decided it was probably best to give him a couple starts rest, then to push the injury. Chacin is eligible to come off the DL on May 26th when the Jays play host to the Chicago White Sox. The Jay’s have yet to announce who Chacin’s replacement will be, but the forerunner at this point is probably Ty Taubenheim who in 8 starts this year is 2-2 with a dazzling 1.36 ERA for Toronto’s triple-A affiliate the Syracuse Skychiefs.
